Even if you have the option of a shower, choose the bucket wash whenever possible. Environmentally friendly and it puts you in touch with a practice done everyday by Indian families.

20. Walk Through The Forest From Kumbhalgarh to Ranakpur

This is a day (or two) long trip outside of Udaipur and not for the faint of heart. But if you’re a nature lover and wildlife enthusiast, then this trip is for you.

You will start by getting a taxi in Udaipur to reach Kumbhalgarh at daybreak. When you reach Kumbhalgarh, spend some time walking around the only unconquered fort to date in India, the massive fortified Kumbhalgarh Fort. Once you are ready to begin trekking down contact the forest officer as they have charges and can hire an escort for your 5 mile trip through the temples. The beginning is a descent over large ancient flagstones but beyond the valley the land is fairly flat. The national park is home to wolves, sloth bears, hyenas, jungle cats, wild boars, bulls, leopards and more but it is rather safe as the animals are not interested in human life.
